Six Months Building an AI-First Recruitment Business

We didn’t set out to build software.

Six months ago, we simply wanted to become better recruiters.

Like every recruitment business, we were spending too much time on administration. Writing notes. Searching emails. Preparing meetings. Formatting documents. Updating systems.

None of those things are why clients choose us.

None of them are why candidates recommend us.

So rather than asking, “How can AI replace recruiters?” we started asking a much better question.

“How can AI remove everything that stops us being great recruiters?”

That question has changed almost every part of our business.

Recruitment is changing.

Not because relationships matter less.

Because time matters more.

Clients expect faster responses.

Candidates expect better communication.

Markets move quicker than ever.

Our role has changed.

Today, our consultants still spend their days talking to people. That hasn’t changed.

Everything around those conversations has.

Vacancies are analysed automatically.

Interview packs build themselves.

Candidate profiles become richer.

Meeting preparation takes minutes rather than hours.

Marketing is supported by AI.

Business intelligence is available almost instantly.

Instead of searching for information, we’re discussing it.

Instead of creating documents, we’re acting on them.

The technology is only half the story.

People often ask what software we’re using.

The honest answer is…Lots of it.

Our technology stack has evolved almost weekly. The exciting part isn’t any individual product.

We’ve stopped thinking about software as separate tools and started thinking about it as one connected operating system for recruitment.

What surprised us most.

The biggest surprise? Every hour saved writing notes, formatting emails or preparing documents becomes another hour speaking to candidates.

Another hour understanding clients.

Another hour building relationships.

Technology hasn’t replaced conversations.

It’s created more of them.

What we’ve learned.

We’ve learned that AI isn’t a shortcut.

It still needs judgement, it still needs experience, it still needs someone asking better questions.

The best results don’t come from pressing a button.

They come from combining decades of recruitment experience with technology that’s capable of processing information faster than any individual could.

We’re only getting started.

If you’d shown us today’s business six months ago, we’d have thought it looked futuristic.

Today it simply feels normal.

And that’s probably the biggest lesson of all.

AI isn’t becoming part of recruitment.

It’s becoming part of business.

The companies that embrace it thoughtfully will create more time, make better decisions and ultimately provide a better service.

That’s exactly what we’re trying to build at Shillito Group.

Not an AI company.

A better recruitment company.

“AI won’t replace recruiters. Recruiters using AI will replace recruiters who don’t.”
